MISHAWAKA - John A. Evans, 77, of Homewood Avenue, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital after an illness. Mr. Evans retired in 1980 from Dodge Division of Reliance Electric after 40 years of service. He was born May 20, 1917, in Mishawaka and was a lifelong area resident. On April 6, 1937, in Mishawaka, he married Frances E. Robinson. She died March 13, 1987. He is survived by his fiance, Katherine Magnuson of Mishawaka; two daughters, Barbara E. Negri and Donna J. Hower, both of Mishawaka; a son, Michael S. of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, F. Robert of Mishawaka. A son, John F., died in 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka Mens Democratic Club, DeAmicis Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 and American Legion Post 161; past president of Dodge Athletic Association and United Steel Workers Local 1191; founding member of Dodge Taper Lock Federal Credit Union; served on the Mayor's Citizens Advisory Committee under Joseph Canfield; and was a veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Hahn Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m.
