SOUTH BEND - Margaret M. Ettl, 73, passed away peacefully at 6:30 a.m., Tuesday, in her home.
Margaret was the only child born to Martha (Nemecz) and Frank Oswald on July 8, 1923.
She retired in 1978 as the owner of Ettl's Market.
On Nov. 22, 1943, in South Bend, as Margaret Oswald, she married Leonard M. Ettl who preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1985. She is survived by two daughters, Martha E. (Thomas) Hertel and Marcia L. (Robert) Dudeck-Downs, both of South Bend; four loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Hertel, Kelley Dudeck, Aaron Dudeck and Casey Downs; two stepsisters, Lillian Gruber and Ethel Koczan, both of South Bend; and an aunt, Sister M. Dolores Nemecz, FDC of Statton Island, N.Y. Margaret was a member of the St. Joseph Valley Grocer's Association and the Apostleship of Prayer of St. Stanislaus Church. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., today, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., today, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., or to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
