Theresa K. Ernst, 99, of Jamestown Court, Mishawaka, Ind., died on Monday, March 6, in her home.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1900, in Mishawaka, to Adam and Katherine (Weinkauf) Hums, the sixth of nine children.

As Theresa Hums she married Joseph Ernst in St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, on Oct. 8, 1929. Mr. Ernst died on July 24, 1956. She was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Mary Cortier of Mishawaka on Sept. 13, 1996; and by Mary's husband, Donald Cortier on Oct. 9, 1999.

She was a bookkeeper for the former Major's Meat Packing Plant, Mishawaka. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Mishawaka, the Rosary Society, and the Brothers of St. Joseph Association. She had lived in Mishawaka all her life.

She is survived by five daughters, Joan Larson and Angela Bliha of Mishawaka, Louise Collins of Granger, Ind., Dorothy Gulde of Florida and Helen Maurer of Utah; two sons, Robert of South Bend and Joseph "Tony" of Granger; 28 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; and by a brother, Herman Hums, and sister-in-law, Anne of Mishawaka. Special survivors are her loving caregivers, Dorothy Bartolini and Rebecca Tom of South Bend.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 8, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A concelebrated Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, in St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, with interment following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.
