SOUTH BEND - Virginia R. Engle, 85, of Vandalia, Michigan,
formerly of South Bend, passed away after an extended illness at
11:55 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in the Cass County Medical
Facility, Cassopolis, MI. Mrs. Engle was born on September 27,
1922, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and was a lifetime resident of the
Michiana area.
On March 17, 1945, in Mishawaka, IN, as
Virginia R. Scheffler, she married Paul V. Engle Sr., who
preceded her in death on June 26, 2002. Virginia is survived by
two daughters, Sandra K. (Duane) Bourdon of Vandalia, MI,
and Nancy J. (David) Cass of South Bend; a son, Paul V.
(Mary) Engle of Bloomington, IN; two sisters, Irene F. Roose
of Mishawaka, IN, Betty J. Smith of Osceola, IN; and a
sister-in-law, Marie Scheffler of Edwardsburg, MI. Also surviving
are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom she
loved and cherished. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving
husband; two sisters, Hazeldene Studebaker and Mary I. Dutenhaver;
and by a brother, Richard "Dick" Scheffler. Mrs. Engle
was a homemaker and worked as a waitress at several restaurants
in the area. She also worked at Ball Band in Mishawaka years ago.
Virginia was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother who
cherished her family as they did her. She loved camping, the
outdoors, was an avid mushroom hunter, and loved to be with her
family.
Visitation hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23,
South Bend. Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m. today in
the funeral home, with Pastor Johnny Groda officiating. Burial
will take place at Highland Cemetery and will be private, family
only. The family request, PLEASE, in lieu of flowers, make all
memorial contributions to In-House Hospice Solutions, 5360
Holiday Terrace, Suite 24 A., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The HANLEY
& Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled
arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and
heartfelt prayers to the Engle family.
