Mrs. Ruth Theresa (Krueger) Engel,
93, formerly of Fairington Place, South Bend, Ind., passed away
of natural causes at 9 p.m. on Sunday evening, June 20, in the
Fountainview Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka, Ind. She was born on
July 19, 1905, in South Bend, and was the daughter of Emil and
Bertha (Lipetska) Krueger. On June 8, 1927, she
married Raymond C. Engel in South Bend, who preceded her in death
on June 10, 1957. She was also preceded in death by a sister,
Margaret Krueger Forster; and by a brother, Alfred S.
Krueger. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn
(Henry) and James P. Hoffman of South Bend; four
grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Sowers and Lori (Robert) Fisher
of Mishawaka, Robert (Karen) Henry and Lynne (Bradley) Zesinger,
both of South Bend; two stepgrandchildren, David (Pam) Hoffman
and Michael (Tammy) Hoffman of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by eight
great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was a
lifelong member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ. She had
been a secretary-treasurer of the Women's Guild, a longtime
member of the church choir, and was a member of the Over 60's
Club.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46615. Her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a very important part of her life from whom she derived much joy. Her church and her God were also very important to her. She will be missed by all.
