"FORMER DODGE OFFICIAL DIES
Charles Endlich, 80, Passes Away in
Hospital.
Charles Endlich,
aged 80, of the Hotel Mishawaka, former secretary and treasurer
of Dodge Manufacturing company and prominent Mason, died at 2:20
a.m. today in St. Joseph hospital. He had been ill for the
last six months and was admitted to the hospital for treatment on
May 12. Mr. Endlich was born Jan. 5, 1860, in Reading, Pa.,
and came to Mishawaka in 1882 from Colorado. He was married
Nov. 30, 1896, to Miss Lena Vollmer. She died Dec. 6,
1925. Surviving are two cousins in Denver, Colo.
Mr. Endlich became
a stockholder and director in the Dodge Manufacturing company in
1882 and was made superintendent of the plant at that time.
Later he was elected secretary and treasurer which position he
held until his retirement in 1923. He was an honorary
member and past worshipful master of Mishawaka Lodge No. 130,
Free and Accepted Masons. He also held membership in
Mishawaka Commandery No. 51, Knights Templar, Mishawaka chapter
No. 53, Royal Arch Masons, and Mishawaka council No. 19, Royal
and Select Masters.
Since his
retirement Mr. Endlich had spent the winters in California and
the summers at Camp Idlewild, Marcell, Minn. While in this
city he maintained his home at Hotel Mishawaka. Friends
will be received in the M. W. Sprague chapel until the hour of
the services which will be there at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. J.
A. Burnett, D.D., of South Bend, will officiate. Members of
the Masonic lodge will be in charge of services. The body
will be taken to Chicago for cremation, after which it will be
taken to a private mausoleum in West Laurel Hill cemetery,
Philadelphia, Pa."
