Thomas Fenton Elder.
Thomas Fenton Elder, 1522 Rockne Dr., owner of the Elder Supermarket, 1025 E.
Madison St., died in Memorial Hospital at 2 p.m. Saturday. He had been
ill since January. He was born in Cardendon, Scotland, March 23, 1905,
and came here 13 years ago from Brazil, Ind. He was married in 1934 in
Vincennes, Ind., to Bertha Alice Doolittle, who survives. He leaves also
his father, Thomas R. Elder, of South Bend; two sons, Robert F., with the Navy
at Great Lakes, and Fred T., at home; a sister, Mrs. Dom Scaicero, Calumet
City, Ind., and four brothers, William R., Terre Haute, Ind.; Robert S. and
Pete, Hammond, and James S., Glendale, Calif. Friends may call after 7
p.m. today at the Welsheimer Funeral Home and until the funeral at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, Rev. Paul E. Chalfant, D. D., pastor,
will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
Mr. Elder was a member of St. Joseph Lodge 45, F. & A.M.; the White Shrine
of Jerusalem 10; Chapter 29, R.A.M.; South Bend Chapter 2 Order of the Eastern
Star; the Scottish Orak Shrine of Hammond; the South Bend Shrine Club; the
Drill Patrol of the Shrine Club of which he was a past president, and the Tall
Cedars of Lebanon. Graveside rites will be conducted by members of Lodge
45.
