Services for Brother Dominic Elder CSC,
71, of Columba Hall, Notre Dame, who was found dead in his room
about 6:30 p.m. Saturday of an apparent heart attack, will be at
3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of St. Joseph at the Holy Cross
Brothers Center, on the campus of Holy Cross Junior College.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, also on the campus.
Friends may call in the Chapel, where a wake will be at 7:30 p.m.
today.
He was born March 22, 1905 in Paducah, Ky.
and entered the Congregation of Brothers of Holy Cross Oct. 18,
1929. He received his habit July 1, 1931; made his first vows
July 2, 1932 and his final vows Aug. 16, 1935. He held degrees of
BA, 1936, MA, 1942 and Ph.D, 1951, all from the University of
Notre Dame. His teaching career began in 1936 in Coyle High
School in Taunton, Mass. and included assignments at Sacred Heart
Military Academy in Watertown, Wis.; Gilmore Academy in Gates
Mills, Ohio; Archbishop Hoban High School, Akron, Ohio; Notre
Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and Moreau High School
in Hayward, Calif. He also served as director of Bishop David
High School in Louisville; superior of Dujarie Hall at Notre
Dame, and assistant and master of novices in Rolling Prairie,
Ind. He returned to Notre Dame in 1975 to become assistant
archivist for the Holy Cross Brothers.
