R. Ege
May
27, 1915 - June 20, 2000
John
R. "Rudy" Ege, 85, formerly of South Bend, Ind., died
on Tuesday, June 20, in Ontario, Calif.
Mr.
Ege was born on May 27, 1915, in Miami County, Ind., to Willis
and Blanche (Cress) Ege. He attended schools in Twelve Mile, Indianapolis,
Ind., and Logansport, Ind., graduating from Logansport High
School in 1933. Shortly thereafter Mr. Ege moved to the Michiana
area, first working in sundry jobs until beginning his
professional driving career in South Bend in 1936. Over a period
of 25 years he drove for the Yellow, Courtesy and Indiana Cab
Companies.
In
1961 Mr. Ege moved to Pomona, Calif., and drove municipal/charter
buses and small drayage vehicles until his retirement in 1979.
On May
16, 1938, Mr. Ege married his beloved wife, Virginia L.
Chlebowski, who died much too prematurely on Sept. 8, 1957, but
always remained foremost in his mind and heart. Mr. Ege devoted
the next several years to raising his three children.
Mr.
Ege is survived by his two daughters, Lorrie Ege and Susan
(Jerry) Burcham, both of Ontario; a son, Ronald (Irene) Ege of
Granger, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kelli, Tom, Michael and Jeff;
and by two great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jenna.
Mr.
Ege enjoyed bowling and, upon retirement, participated in several
leagues until diminished health prevented him from continuing. He
loved his family dearly and valued hard work, decency and
honesty. Everyone who met Mr. Ege understood his uncommon respect
for them, and knew his work was his bond. We will miss him so.
Cremation
will be in Ontario. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South
Bend. The family will hold a private graveside service.
Todd
Memorial Chapel, Pomona, is handling arrangements.
