Lawrence Eddy, 86, residing on Strathmoor Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, in Countryside Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka. He was a mechanic for many years retiring in 1980 from Tucker Freight Line. He was born on Dec. 20, 1917, in Vandalia, Mich., to Floyd and Verna (Hotrum) Eddy and was a lifelong area resident. He married Virginia Sessler with whom he had three children. She preceded him in death.
On Feb. 14, 1976, in Osceola, Ind., he married Mary E. Nobles, who survives. Along with his loving wife, Mary E. Eddy of Mishawaka, he is survived by one daughter, Carol (Patrick) Condon of South Bend; two sons, Floyd (Carol) Eddy of South Bend and Herbert (Christy) Eddy of Granger; two stepdaughters, Connie (David) Beery of Indianapolis and Darlene Kenner of Florida; one stepson, Randy Richards of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Martz of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by one brother, Newell Eddy.
Mr. Eddy was a member of South Side Baptist Church, South Bend; and Teamster's Local #364. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He enjoyed his retirement years camping and fishing at Michiana Campground in Nottawa, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Scott Smith, of South Side Baptist Church, South Bend and Rev. Clearence Dycus will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Lawrence H.
