MISHAWAKA - Janet Aileen Eckert, 69, of Freeport, Illinois, died
Friday, March 12th, in her home. She was born February 18, 1941,
in Mishawaka, Indiana, the daughter of Robert F. and Florence
(Dalke) Sheets. Janet was educated in Maryland and completed her
education at George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Janet
married Robert P. Eckert on November 23, 1977, in Bethesda,
Maryland, and joined him in raising his two younger children.
They moved to Freeport in March 2004, and continued a residence
in Rancho Mirage, California. Mrs. Eckert was an executive with
American Archives Company, Washington, D.C., where she was
responsible for locating missing heirs throughout the world.
Janet was especially interested in home decoration, was an avid
reader, accomplished pianist, and was very fond of several
poodles during her life. Mrs. Eckert is survived by her husband,
Robert; her mother, Florence of Freeport and Rancho Mirage, CA;
her sister, Sara Jane Gowen, and brother-in-law, Barry of
Freeport and Rancho Mirage, California; her sister-in-law, Nancy
(Richard) Eckert of Freeport; as well as her husband's children,
Aquila (Pat) Stanley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ann (William)
Hessenauer of Jupiter, Florida, Amanda (Eddy) Paoletti of Nevada
City, California, and David (Catherine) Eckert of San Francisco,
California. She is also survived by five grandsons and several
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services for Mrs. Eckert will be today at 10:30 A.M. in
Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Rev. Manny Recera of Saint
Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be
from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the services at Burke-Tubbs.
Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of
