Gene Harding Eberhart

Gene Harding Eberhart, 64, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of South Bend, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital, Benton Harbor. He founded Hart Manufacturing, Mishawaka, in 1955, and in 1967 he sold the business to Oak Industries, which he ran until retiring in 1972. Born July 19, 1920, in Mishawaka, he lived in the South Bend area for 52 years.

 

On Nov. 20, 1940, in Mishawaka, he married the former Maxine Barhydt. She survives with a daughter, Kay Ann Johanson of Bremen; four grandchildren; a sister, Vera Casey of Mishawaka; and three brothers, Ray of Mishawaka, Clem of Goshen and Donald of South Bend.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive, where friends may call an hour before services. Cremation will take place. Mr. Eberhart was a member of the Elks in Scottsdale and a former member of Morris Park Country Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Valley of Promise Foundation for Crippled Children, Inc.
