Rev. Michael J. Early CSC, 76, superior of Holy Cross Seminary from 1925 to 1931, died today in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Dec 8, 1892, in Duluth, Minn., and entered the Congregation at Notre Dame on May 17, 1917. He made his final vows on Jan. 19, 1922 and was ordained that same year. He left Notre Dame in 1931 to become prefect of religion at St. Paul College, St. Paul, Minn. From 1933 to 1940 he served as president and religious superior at the University of Portland in Portland, Ore. After serving as superior of Holy Cross Foreign Mission Seminary in Washington from 1943 to 1946, he returned to Notre Dame as superior of the Community Infirmary. In 1962 he was named chaplain of the Holy Cross Sisters at St. Mary’s Convent. He retired in 1967.

Friends may call in the Moreau Seminary where the office of the dead and a concelebrated mass will be said at 3 p.m. Monday, with burial in the Community Cemetery at Notre Dame.
