MISHAWAKA - Walter V. Eakins, 59, of Mishawaka, IN, passed
away at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, October 11, in Memorial Hospital
after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Eakins was born on
June 28, 1949, in Mishawaka, IN, and had resided in the Michiana
area his lifetime. On May 10, 2003, in Mishawaka, he married the
former Brenda L. Holmes, who survives. Also surviving are
a daughter, Kimberly (Rusty) Lowery of Brandon, MS; three
sons, Kevin (Christina) Eakins of Macon, GA, Neal Eakins of
Granger, IN, and Austin Eakins of Mishawaka; two stepsons,
Zachariah A. Walter of Kenosha, WI, and Joseph S. Walter
of Mishawaka; three sisters, Linda M. (Benny) Strebeck of
Pearle, MS, Trudy M. (Gary) Wagner of South Bend and
Leoneta (Glen) Good of Burleson, TX; three brothers,
Charles D. Eakins and Rudy R. Eakins, both of Mishawaka, and
Patrick H. (Valerie) Eakins of Churubusco, IN; and by six
grandchildren whom he loved and cherished. Mr. Eakins was on
disability from CVS Pharmacy in Bremen, IN, due to his illness.
He was the store manager prior to becoming ill.
Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 14, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jerry Bell officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Homes, Inc., handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Eakins family.
