SOUTH BEND - Melvin Henry "Mel" Dzialak,
residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Friday,
April 18, 2008, in his home at the age of 63. He was born January
22, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to Henry A. and June E. (Nash)
Dzialak, and had lived in South Bend most of his life. He
attended Purdue University and graduated from DeVry Institute.
On May 10, 1986, in Mishawaka, IN, Mel was
united in marriage to Carol "Cookie" Collins.
His loving wife, Cookie of 22 years, survives him along with his
daughter, Heidi (Nathan) Daren of South Bend, and his
grandson, Jacob Daren. Also surviving are two sisters, Henrietta Crose
of Mishawaka and Sonia (Bill) Henderson of South Bend. Mel
retired in 2004 from WNDU-TV as director of R.F. Operations
following 39 years of employment, and continued to do private
contracting for radio stations. He was a member of the Society of
Broadcast Engineers, a member of the Lincoln Township Lions Club,
Fish Lake Lions Club, a volunteer Fireman for Lincoln Township,
and for 20 years served as a 4-H leader with the St. Joseph
County 4-H Fair Association, a volunteer with Camp Millhouse,
served as president of a Ham Radio Group, and was a member of
RACES for FEMA.
Services celebrating the life of Melvin
Henry Dzialak will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, in
Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street,
South Bend. Jackie Walorski, a family friend, will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday,
April 21, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel.
