Roddell John Durbin, 63, of Douglas
Road, Osceola, Ind., passed away following an illness at 9 p.m.
on Thursday, Nov. 27, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend,
Ind. Mr. Durbin was born on Oct. 10, 1934, in Taylorville, Ill.,
to Charles and Ollie Durbin.
On June 18, 1954, he married the former
Jayalene Dean in Mishawaka, Ind. She survives. He is also
survived by four daughters, Pam (Ralph) Holycross of
Bristol, Ind., Susan (Floyd) Heroy of Mishawaka, Lori
Durbin of Osceola and Karin (Ken) Stahlhut of Alabama; a
son, Roddell Durbin, Jr., of South Bend; 13 grandchildren,
Samantha, Beth, Amanda, Caitlin and Hannah Holycross, Jonathan
Heroy, Samuel and Megan Stahlhut, Randy, R.J. and Chuckie Durbin,
and Veronica and Joshua Schuller; a brother, Noble Durbin
of Elkhart, Ind.; and by seven sisters, Pauline Pryde of
Decatur, Ill., Freida (Bea) McManus of Walkerton, Ind.,
Eileen Brown and Theresa (Patty) Slocum, both of
Mishawaka, Judy Shaw of Osceola, Donna Stover of
Elkhart and Carolyn Lindstrand of Bourbonnais, Ill. He was
preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Pauline Durbin; and by
three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Durbin was a charter member of the
Harris Township Fire Department. He was a past member of the Penn
North Fire Department. He was an active member of 4H, and he was
a member of the Granger Presbyterian Church. He retired from
Uniroyal in 1989 after 32 years of service. Mr. Durbin also
retired as a bus driver for the Elkhart Community school system
in 1994, driving bus No. 104.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday in the
Granger Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jim Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Visitation
will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday in the Bubb Funeral
Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the United Cancer Society of Elkhart or
to the Granger Presbyterian Church.
