Sister M. Imelda CSC, 83, one of the oldest
members of the Congregation of the Holy Cross at St. Marys
College, died suddenly Friday afternoon in the convent, where she
had spent the last several years of her life. She had taught
English for many years and was one of the best known and most
beloved figures at St. Marys. Born as Katherine Dunde in
Ireland in 1858 she entered the Congregation of the Holy Cross in
1875. She taught at St. Marys Academy in South Bend, and
later in Austin, Texas; Ventura, Calif.; and in the Academy of
Holy Cross at Fort Wayne from 1882 to 1890. She returned to St.
Marys 10 years ago. She was a cousin of William T. Breen,
of Fort Wayne, who gave large sums of money for buildings at the
University of Notre Dame.
The funeral will take place in the convent
chapel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with internment in the Community
Cemetery.
