Juanita Thomas Douglas

SOUTH BEND - Juanita Thomas Douglas was born on December
13, 1917 in Memphis, Tennessee to loving parents, Sultan T.
Thomas and Claudia Poe Thomas. As a young girl, Juanita and her
family moved to Oxford, Mississippi. There she received her
secondary education, continued at Rust College and later worked
as a teacher in Mississippi.
Junaita moved to South Bend in 1946 and
later wed Carl Douglas Sr., and together they raised three
children, Vaudra, Sharon and Carl Jr. Carl Sr. and Carl Jr.
Preceded her in death. Juanita confessed her belief in Christ at
an early age, and was a long time member of Pilgrim Baptist
Church. Juanita was known for her wonderful homemade cooking.
Juanita leaves behind to cherish her loving memory two daughters,
Vaudra J. Caldwell of Atlanta, Georgia and Sharon Munlin
of South Bend, Indiana; two sisters, Louella Oliver of
South Bend, Indiana and Garnette Pegues of Kissimmee,
Florida; grandson, Randall T. Caldwell Sr. of Chicago, Illinois;
granddaughters, LaDonna A. McFarland of Raleigh, North
Carolina, Valerie A. Caldwell of Atlanta, Georgia, Sonia K. Bibbs
of South Bend and Tonia R. Munlin of Mishawaka, Indiana; six
great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters. Juanita departed
this life on Monday March 4, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor
Nursing Home, Wakarusa, Indiana.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Monday with
funeral services at Pilgrim Baptist Church at noon. Burial will
be at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home is
handling arrangements.
