SOUTH BEND - Ellen C. Dosmann, 81, residing in South Bend,
passed away following an illness at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, August 7,
2008, in Memorial Hospital. She was born September 9, 1926, in
Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Howard H. and Helen G. (Brown)
Heaton, and had lived in the South Bend-Mishawaka area
most of her life. She was a 1944 graduate of Mishawaka High
School. On July 21, 1945, in St. Monica's Catholic Church,
Mishawaka, as Ellen Heaton, she was united in marriage to Joseph
B. Dosmann. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his passing
on February 13, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a son,
John D. Dosmann in 1979; two infant sons, Joseph and Gerald; and
a great-granddaughter, Lisabeth Sue Dosmann on January 18, 2008.
Her sister, Selma DeVos, also preceded her in death. Mrs.
Dosmann was secretary-treasurer of Northern Electric Company for
many years, and later served as chairman of the board. She was a
member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Elizabethan Ladies of
Knights of Columbus Council 5521, and was a member of the Ladies
Golf Leagues at Erskine and Studebaker courses. Mrs. Dosmann was
an avid sports fan, especially enjoyed watching Notre Dame
football and the Indianapolis Colts. She was dedicated to and
loved her family very much and especially enjoyed spending time
with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her
time spent with "the girls" and enjoyed keeping them
busy. She loved to go shopping with her namesake, granddaughter,
Ellen. Mrs. Dosmann was a very strong and independent woman even
until the end of her life. She had an amazing sense of humor and
will be missed by all.
She is survived by two daughters and their
husbands, Diane and Wayne England of Plymouth, Susan and
Bob Litteral of North Liberty; a son and his wife, Howard
P. and Pamela Dosmann of North Liberty; nine grandchildren, Ellen
(Matthew) Gaines, Joseph A. (Kaitlyn) England, Philip T.
(Elizabeth) Crone, Patrick Crone, Lindsey Crone, Tara
(Gary) Brown, Kevin Dosmann, Michael (Vicki) Dosmann and
Stephanie Dosmann; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler England,
Kylee Gaines, Braden Gaines, Zachary Brown and Dakota Brown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12th, in St. Jude Catholic
Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Graveside services and
burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday in
the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan
Street, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Dosmann may
be made to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.,
111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the charity of
the donor's choice.
