Burel J. Dorsey, 78, of South Bend, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2006, in Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation.

Burel was born on August 28, 1928, in Holt, FL, to John and Lula (Herndon) Dorsey. He was preceded in death by his parents.

On September 22, 1952, he married Rita E. Derda. She survives along with their children, Linda Dorsey of South Bend, Colleen (Les) Dorsey-Niedbalski of South Bend, Peggy Dorsey of Indianapolis, IN, and Alex Dorsey of FL; and seven grandchildren, Sara, Mariah and Noah Niedbalski, Dylan and Jess Dorsey, and Katelin and Nathan Lang.

Burel retired from Uniroyal in 1981. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2006, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A funeral liturgy will follow at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
