John P. Doran, 80, residing in Fort
Pierce, Florida, formerly of South Bend, passed away Monday, June
27, 2005, in VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, FL. He was born
October 9, 1924, in South Bend, to William B. and Margaret E. (Burns)
Doran, and graduated from John Adams High School. He had resided
in North Hutchinson Island (Fort Pierce), Florida, since 1985.
On October 19, 1946, he married Mary I. Vitou,
who preceded him in death on April 25, 1977. He was also preceded
in death by a son, Timothy Patrick Doran, USMC, on July 21, 1968.
Mr. Doran retired from the United States Postal Service where he
held various executive positions in Washington, D.C., Chicago,
IL, Nashville, TN, and Cincinnati, OH. He served his country in
the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. He is
survived by his loving wife, Peggy Doran of 27 years, along with
three daughters, Kathleen Yarnell of Tucson, AZ, Patricia Rodgers
of Potomac, MD, and Maureen Cowan of Hoover, AL. Also
surviving are seven grandchildren; his sister, Sister M.
Gabriella Doran, C.S.C., of St. Mary's College; and his
brother and sister-in- law, W. Joseph and Gerry Doran of South
Bend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, in St. Joseph
Catholic Church, 226 N. Hill St., South Bend. Graveside services
and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park,
Granger. The family will receive friends one hour prior to
services Saturday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park,
2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, is assisting the Doran family
with arrangements.
