June Doolittle, 70, of North Iowa
Street, died at 8:45 a.m., Tuesday, in her residence, following a
lengthy illness. Mrs. Doolittle had been head nurse in the
Pediatrics Unit at Memorial Hospital. She had also been employed
at the former Ferris Lombardy Nursing Home and the Milton Home.
She was born May 28, 1926 in Stroudsburg, Pa., and has lived in
South Bend since 1950, coming from Stroudsburg.
On Dec. 3, 1949 in Stroudsburg as A. June Klingel,
she married Floyd H. Doolittle, who survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Kathy Stokes
of Roswell, Ga.; two grandchildren, Katelyn and Matthew Stokes of
Roswell; her mother, Anna Klingel of East Stroudsburg, Pa; and a
brother, Charles Klingel, also of East Stroudsburg. Mrs.
Doolittle received her registered nursing degree from the
University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia and
was also a graduate of St. Francis College in Joliet, Ill. She
was a member of First Presbyterian Church of South Bend and
Ladies of the Moose 58.
Services for Mrs. Doolittle will be at 2:30
p.m., Friday, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St.,
with Rev. David Morrow officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m., today, in the funeral home. Memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to
First Presbyterian Church.
