Sister Mary Giovanni CSC, 79, of St. Mary’s Convent, died this morning in her residence. She was born Mary Mercedes Donnelly on May 7, 1898 in Grand Junction, Iowa, and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Dec. 30, 1916, coming from San Jose, Calif. She made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1919. She taught at schools in California, Idaho, Utah and two years in Maryland. In 1973 she retired and moved to St. Mary’s Convent.

Friends may call until services at the convent parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the  Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both on the St. Mary’s College campus.
