MISHAWAKA -
Gertrude I. Doll, 94, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday morning, December
15, 2006, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Gertrude was born
August 7, 1912, a daughter of the late August and Josephine
(Sammet) Doll. She grew up in Mishawaka, graduated from St.
Joseph School, and furthered her education at Ancilla Domini High
School in Donaldson, and the College of Commerce in South Bend.
Gertrude was employed as a bookkeeper with Mishawaka Utilities
for many years. Mishawaka was her home until moving to the Catherine
Kasper Life Center in Donaldson in 2003.
Gertrude was a
lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Her
church was an important part of her life and she belonged to
their Rosary Society. Gertrude enjoyed flower gardening and
playing the piano. She is particularly remembered for her love of
baking and decorating cakes for special occasions such as First
Communions, birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. Gertrude was a
woman of deep faith who dearly loved her family and friends. She
will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Gertrude's
surviving family includes two sisters, Marie Housand and Eleanor
Norris; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and
great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
brothers, Edwin Doll, Eugene Doll, Bernard Doll, Wilfred Doll and
Valentine Doll; and sisters, Henrietta Thallemer, Bernadette
Poppe, and Virginia Hurst.
Friends may spend
time with Gertrude's family today (Sunday) from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third
Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m.
in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka,
with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at St.
Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka,
or to the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, Donaldson. Envelopes
are available in the funeral home.
