SOUTH BEND - Mr. A. D. Doaks, 82, of
North Johnson Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away peacefully
after a three-year illness at 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, at
St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born on March 1, 1915, in
Trenton, Tenn., to the union of Molly (Overall) and John
Doaks.
He was united in wedlock to Herman Johnson
on March 24, 1939, who preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1973. He
retired from the Solitt Construction Company after 20 years of
service. Leaving to cherish his memory are two daughters, Peggy
(Kent) Ross of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Linda Waters
of South Bend; two sons, John (Myrtle) Doaks of South Bend and
Ernest (Dorothy) Barnett of Memphis, Tenn.; 18
grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise McLin,
Eva Jordan and Opal Johnson; four brothers, Clyde,
Raymond and Jerrel Doaks, all of Trenton, Tenn., and Leon Doaks
of South Bend; along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was a
member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served on the
usher board.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Friday, with burial following at Ward Cemetery in Trenton, Tenn.
Local visitation will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the
New Hope Baptist Church. Contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society, Prostate Division. Alford's Mortuary is
in charge of arrangements.
