SOUTH BEND - Richard C. "Dick"
Diltz, 86, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday morning,
September 26, 2007, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
South Bend. Dick was born May 12, 1921, in Mishawaka, a son of
the late P.C. and Frances (Schmitt) Diltz. He was a
graduate of Mishawaka High School and earned his bachelor's
degree in commerce from the University of Notre Dame. Dick served
his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 10,
1944, in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married Helen
Muldoon. They lived in Mishawaka until moving to South Bend in
1968. Dick, along with his father and a brother, Ray, founded
Diltz and Sons in Mishawaka, a game and music business. Dick's
brother, Jim, later joined the family business. Dick was a member
of the Cathedral of St. Matthew in South Bend. Dick's surviving
family includes his wife of 63 years, Helen; three sons, John and
his wife, Michele of Kissimmee, Florida, Robert and his wife,
Linda of Granger, and Warren and his wife, Kathleen of South
Bend; four daughters, Sister Joyce Diltz, PHJC, of East
Chicago, Jean Kuhn of Kokomo, Marian McCarthy and her
husband, Brian of Lynbrook, New York, and Barbara Kobasuk
and her husband, Mark of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren,
John, Shelley, Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth, Mary Kathleen, Sarah,
Joseph, Christopher, Lauren and Katherine; five
great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Bauer; two
sisters-in-law, Monabelle Diltz and Emily Diltz; and two
brothers-in-law, Joseph Shafer and Paul Muldoon. Dick was
preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and James.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami
Street, South Bend, with Rev. Michael Heintz officiating. The
family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the
Mass. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later
date at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Contributions
in Dick's memory may be made to Bethany Retreat House or to the
Christ Child Society. Envelopes will be available in the church
on Monday.
