SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE – September 5, 1996

Constance E. Dickinson

May 24, 1928 - Aug. 12, 1996

Constance E. Dickinson was the eighth child born to the union of the late Curtis E. and Ruth A. Hall, in Denver, Colo., on May 24, 1928.

She fell in love and married Coleridge T. Dickinson, of South Bend, Ind., in September of 1948. A year later, she moved to South Bend, where she was a dedicated mother and wife to her family. Among her many talents, she was a skilled seamstress. She had a love for interior decorating and baked her way into our hearts. Because of her love to entertain, her father-in-law nicknamed her ''Connie 'Picnic' Dickinson''. For many years, she was a Jehovah's Witness. Later in life, she developed a personal relationship with Jesus and made her peace.

In her earlier years, Constance nursed the sick, fed the needy and performed domestic duties. She was formerly employed by Robertson's (Indiana), The Broadway, Desmond's, The May Company, Marlton Schools (for the deaf and blind), and went on to become manager for Anthony Real Estate Schools.

Constance leaves us after a 14-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.

She is survived by her brother, Solon Hall; her sister, Dorothy Rose; her children, Gwendolyn Diana Williams, Gregory Taylor Dickinson, Jesselen Ruth Greenidge-Taylor; her beloved niece, Diana Gwen Mitchell-Davis; four grandsons, Bryon Everett Williams, Aaron Niel Greenidge, Adam Scott Greenidge and Michael Everett Williams; a granddaughter, Shannon Marie Dickinson; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Nicole and Ross Cameron Williams, all of Calif.; a host of nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Edward and Ruth Arena Hall; three brothers, William, Damon and Arvid Hall; and two sisters, Cleo Jones and Lela Mitchell.

The memorial service was held on Aug. 19, at the Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area, Los Angeles, Calif., with minister Donald E. Rose officiating.
