Maxine L. Diamond

Maxine L. Diamond, 76, residing on 23rd Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extremely brief illness at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

 

Mrs. Diamond worked as a baker for Strauss Bakery from 1965 to 1968. She was employed by Wilt's Grocery from 1968 until they closed.

 

Maxine was born on June 13, 1922, in Walkerton, Ind., to the late Welcome H. and Ethel Matilda (Rensberger) Knowlton and had been a lifelong area resident.

 

On June 10, 1939, in Scottsville, Ind., she married Charles Diamond, who preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1987.

 

Mrs. Diamond is survived by a daughter, Donna Weaver of Mishawaka; a son, Greg (Bette) Diamond of South Bend; six grandchildren, Dawn Golden, Todd Weaver, William Weaver, Jr., Christopher Weaver, Brent Diamond, and Sara Diamond; eleven great grandchildren; and by a sister, Marjorie Williamson of West Lafayette, Ind.

 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Knowlton, formerly of North Liberty, Ind.

Maxine was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 2, South Bend. She served the community and volunteered at Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Palmer Funeral Home.
