GRANGER - Mary Helen (Moulder) Dewey, 96, April 2, at home in
Cocoa, FL. Helen was a long time resident of the Granger,
Mishawaka and South end, IN, areas. She moved to Florida in May
2003. Helen was born October 14, 1913 in Saskatoon, Sasketchewan,
Canada to Helena and James Moulder, the first of their four
children. Her parents, brother, James and sisters, Yvonne and
Mary Lou preceded her in death. On June 25, 1942, Helen married
Richard Dewey in Buffalo, NY and they shared 60 years of love and
marriage. Richard, an active and well known member of the South
Bend and Granger communities, preceded Helen in death in
September 2002. Helen and Richard lost a son, 9 year old, John
Michael in 1956. Helen is survived by a daughter, Ann (Dewey)
Adamus and husband Victor, of Cocoa, FL; son, Stephen Jerome and
wife Michaelene (Brugh) Dewey of Mishawaka. She leaves
grandchildren, Rebecca (Adamus) Basu and husband, Kaustuv, Jon
Adamus and wife Giovanna, Alison (Dewey) Witters and husband,
Damon and Christopher Dewey. She also enjoyed her
great-grandchildren who will miss her warmth, Isabel Adamus,
Ethan Adamus, Adrianna Witters and Olivia Witters and Arjun Basu.
Helen had a full and active life. Her family moved from Canada,
to Iowa, to Colorado, to west Texas and to West Virginia, before
settling in buffalo, NY. Helen graduated from the University of
Buffalo, with a degree as a registered Nurse. She and Richard
moved to South Bend in the mid 1940s, where Helen worked for many
years at St. Joseph's Hospital, Memorial Hospital and the
(former) Osteopathic Hospital. Following a short retirement, she
returned to nursing with the Visiting nurses Association and
continued for many years doing volunteer work for the
American Cancer Society and the VNA. She was involved
in her children's school and athletic activities and scouting.
She and Richard shared a love of bridge playing and golfing.
Helen was an active member of St. Pius X parish in Granger for
many years, and later joined St. Anthony's parish in Mishawaka
and Blessed Sacrament parish in Cocoa, FL. Helen had a kind work
and a generous smile for everyone who came her way. She was loved
and will be missed by all who knew her. Respecting Helen's
wishes, there will be no visitation. The family will have a
private service. Helen will be laid to rest along side her
husband, Richard and their son, John at St. Joseph Valley
Memorial Park. Memorial contributions for Helen may be made to
