George B. Dewald, 92, of Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness at 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County, South Bend, Ind.
George was born on Sept. 13, 1906, in Mishawaka, as the son of the late Gregory and Caroline (Simhauser) Dewald. On Oct. 4, 1927, he married Berniece Eberhardt, who preceded him in death in 1946. Mr. Dewald was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruthmary Hammond, and by a son, James Dewald, Sr.
On May 10, 1947, he married the former Gladys Deal, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Christine (Keith) Erickson of Bremen, Ind., and Becky (Joseph) Balog of Arvada, Colo.; three sons, Charles (Diane) Dewald of Cape Coral, Fla., Thomas (Linda) Dewald of Sarasota, Fla., and Ronald (Elaine) Kinch of Mishawaka; and by 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dewald was a charter member of Kansas City Life and was a an insurance representative for 50 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, a member of Knights of Columbus 18787, Mishawaka, where he was a past Faithful Navigator.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka, where a wake prayer service will be at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
