Dorothy M. DeWachter, formerly of Fairington Apartments, died of natural causes on Thursday, Oct. 26, in Regency Place Nursing Home. Dorothy was born to William and Margaret Frepan on July 1, 1907, in South Bend, Ind., and had lived here all her life.

On Dec. 9, 1932, she married Ernest DeWachter who preceded her in death, June 1981. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Al DeWachter in December 1999 and George DeWachter in July 1991; and a sister, Gertrude Frepan in February 1995. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (David) Post of South Bend; two daughter-in-laws, Joan DeWachter of Brunswick, Maine and Katherine DeWachter of South Bend. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Michael Post, Patricia Hyndman, Gary DeWachter, Susan Petty, Cathy Kruszewski, Linda Brown, James DeWachter and Robert DeWachter; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was a member and volunteer at the Northern Indiana Historical Society for many years, and long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, corner of Brick and Mayflower Roads, with Pastor Denise Grant officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 51900 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46628. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
