SOUTH BEND Daniel F. DeVreese,
98, a former St. Joseph County Deputy Sheriff and a former county
councilman, died at 8 a.m. today in Medco Center Nursing Home. He
served as deputy sheriff from 1944 to 1946. From 1952 to 1956, he
served as 5th District County Councilman. For 40 years he was a
5th District Democratic precinct committeeman. He also was a
former South Bend street commissioner.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member
of American Legion Post 50 and Army-Navy Union. He retired from
the former Studebaker Corp. after 44 years of service. He was
born Dec. 5, 1894 in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
In 1916 he married Anna Kruk. She
died in 1972. In 1974 he married Evalee Rickel and she
died last September. He is survived by a daughter, Elinor Andrzejewski
of South Bend; a son Daniel F. Jr. of South Bend; two
step-sons, Larry McDonald and Dan McDonald, both of
Warsaw; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Martha Maple of Niles. A
granddaughter, Beth DeVreese died in 1976
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in St.
Matthews Catholic Cathedral. Burial will be in Highland
Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the
Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home.
