MARCEL J. DeVOS, JR.

July 10, 1939 – January 17, 2003

Marcel J. DeVos, Jr., 63, of Eighth Street, Mishawaka, passed away in his residence on Friday, January 17. Marcel was born on July 10, 1939, in Mishawaka to Marcel & Erma B. (Verslype) DeVos, both of whom preceded him in death.

Marcel was a 1957 graduate of Mishawka High School. He served active duty in the US Marine Corps from 1957 until 1960. Marcel was an officer and director of the B.K.Club I Mishawaka, along with being a member of the DeAmicis Club.

He graduated from the Gupton Mortuary College in Atlanta GA, and was a member of the Theta Chapter of the National Mortician Fraternity. Marcel was formerly a funeral director and the owner of the DeVos Funeral Home in Mishawaka.

Marcel was a licensed Real Estate agent in the state of Florida. He was employed by the MFB Corp. for the past five years. Marcel was an elected member of the Penn Township Advisory Board and an active member of the American Legion, at both the local and state chapter.

Marcel is survived by a sister, Marie (Bob) Case of Pendleton, South Carolina; one niece, Bobbi (Frank) Cortese of Pendleton, SC; along with two great nieces, Helena and Francesca. Marcel is also survived by best friends, Bob & Marie Smith, and Dennis & Sue Ann VanPoppel, along with several cousins, and one aunt, Martha Sabbe of Mishawaka.

Friends may call from 2 until 8pm, Tuesday, January 21 in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. The funeral Mass will be held at 10am, Wednesday, January 22 in the St Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. Seventh St., Mishawaka, with Father Barry England officiating. Burial is to follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Bavo’s School Fund or Pet Refuge Inc., 2300 West 6 Street, Mishawaka IN 46544.
