NORTH LIBERTY - Blanche K. Deuitch, 83, passed away at
8:40 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Hospice House. Blanche was
born on July 16, 1924, in Chicago, IL. She was living with her
daughter in North Liberty at the time of her death. Blanche was
employed as a registered nurse for 381/2 years. She had been
employed at the former Holy Family Hospital in LaPorte, IN, and
the former Beatty Memorial Hospital in Westville, IN.
On October 31, 1954, she married William Swihart,
who preceded her in death in 2002. In July 1973, she married
Richard H. Deuitch, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1998.
Also preceding her in death was her granddaughter, Stephanie McVay.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori (Daniel) Hannon of
New Carlisle and Mari (James) McVay of North Liberty; one son,
Karl (Tommi) Swihart of Grovertown; six grandchildren, Jennifer
(Joe) Troyer, Danielle (Erick Hordos) McVay, Ryan
(Sally) Hannon, Molly (Kyle) Kress, Lindsey Swihart and
Drew Swihart; two great-grandchildren and several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, in The Cathedral of St.
Matthew. Burial will follow at Christian Union Cemetery, Avilla,
IN. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the
Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish
Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also call from
9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Blanche
was a 1946 graduate of St. Mary of Nazareth College in Chicago
and a 1951 graduate of DePaul University. She was the former
president of the V.F.W. in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. She was a
member of the V.F.W., D.A.V., and P.O.W.M.I.A. in Indian Rocks
Beach, FL, and Garrett, IN. She was also a member of the Indiana
Association of Employees and had volunteered in many
organizations. She was proud of nursing and her Polish heritage.
