John G. Dettmer

John G. Dettmer, 36, of Victoria
Street, South Bend, died Tuesday morning in his residence of an
illness. He was born July 29, 1960 in South Bend, and was a
lifetime resident.
On May 12, 1990 in South Bend, he married
Elizabeth Ann Rupchock, who survives. Also surviving are
his parents, Catherine R. and Edmund F. Dettmer, Sr. of South
Bend; and five brothers: Edmund F. Dettmer, Jr., of Iowa City,
Iowa, Richard J. Dettmer of Huntertown, Ind., Dennis G. Dettmer
of Oconomowoc, Wis., Charles P. Dettmer of South Bend and James
W. Dettmer of Sonoita, Ariz.
He graduated from Marian High School of
Mishawaka in 1978 and from Indiana University in 1982. In October
of 1982, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1988
with the rank of Yeoman. He graduated with an Associate Degree in
Electrical Engineering Technology from Purdue University in 1991.
He completed a five-year Apprentice Program with Michiana
Electrical Workers and was awarded ''Apprentice of the Year'' on
June 11, 1997. He was presently a Journeyman and a member of the
Indiana Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #153 and was
working for Koontz-Wagner Electric Company in South Bend. John
was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral, where he served as an
usher.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St.
Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami St., South Bend. Burial will be in
Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 p.m. today in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home,
3718 South Michigan St., where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
today.
