SOUTH BEND - Mary D. DeRyckere passed away in Lake Placid, Florida on Sunday, March 14, 2010. Mary struggled with failing health for the past five years. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Raymond DeRyckere; her stepdaughter, Victoria Flahaven and her grandchildren, Jillian, Patrick and Taylor Flahaven of St. Charles, Illinois. She leaves behind two sisters, Vera Gouker and Betty Ross of Lakeville, IN. Mary was born April 26, 1933 to Ernest and Elizabeth Colson in South Bend, Indiana. Her parents preceded her in death. Her brother, John C. Colson passed away four years ago. Mary worked for South Bend Drug Company and at Studebaker as a telephone operator. She and Raymond shared their home with Mary's mother for many years. Mary helped care for Raymond's mother as well. Mary was close to her nieces and nephews and their children: Kathy (Michael) Gray of Mishawaka, IN, John (Anne) Colson of Carbondale, CO, Kurt (Kate) Kline of Bremen, IN, Ruth A. Colson, Madison, WI, Karen Iovino of Lakeville, IN, Gabriel (Kristin) Iovino of Bloomington, IN and Stuart Colson of Madison, WI. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Mary loved children, flowers and chocolate. She had a great laugh. At her request there will be no service. The funeral home of M. Brochetti, Lake Placid, FL is handling arrangements.
