Clementine V. Deranek, 87, of the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind., died at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, July 21, in the Holy Cross Care and Re-habilitation Center.

She was born on Dec. 17, 1912, in South Bend, to the late George and Mary (Gorka) Zmudzinski.

She was a former employee of the Singer Manufacturing Company, and retired from the Selmer Company of Elkhart, Ind., after 22 years of service. She was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, the Sisters Auxiliary, Harvest House, Polish Women's Alliance Group #335, the Grandmothers Club and the Golden Cluster.

She was married as Clementine V. Zmudzinski to Raymond Deranek, who died in 1968. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melvine Matuszak; three sisters, Bernice Wasikowski, Alice Zmudzinski and Loretta Kosinski; and by two brothers, Harry and Raymond Zmudzinski.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tom Gargis of Lakeville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Doug (Beth) Gargis of South Bend, Debbie (Greg) Gurtner of Bremen, Ind., David (Shawn) Gargis of Warsaw, Ind., Greg (Kim) Matuszak of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jeff (Crine) Matuszak of Osceola, Ind. "Grandma Clemie" had 12 great-grandchildren, Steven Gargis, Holly Rimel, Sara and Zachary Gurtner, Brittany, Brogan and Briley Gargis, and Andrea, Stephanie, Shaun, Tyler and Elora Matuszak. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Cyrier of Mishawaka, Ind.; her brother, Joseph Smudey of Niles, Mich.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 23, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. today.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 24, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, with burial to follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
