Leon DeMaegd, 88, of San Diego, Calif., died Thursday March 21. He was born in Mishawaka, Ind., and resided there until retiring from Uniroyal in 1974.
He had served honorably with the US Army in WWII in the Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland campaigns receiving the American Defense Ribbon, the EAMA Theater Ribbon with four bronze stars, the Bronze Arrowhead Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include a son, Terry DeMaegd of San Diego; a daughter, Kathleen Foshee of Porterville, Calif., and three grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Julius DeMaegd of South Bend, Ind., Cyril DeMaegd of Mishawaka, Ind., Raymond DeMaegd of Mishawaka, and Arthur DeMaegd of Union, Mich.; and sisters, Mary Finn of Mishawaka, Alice Hassan of South Bend, and Margaret Seely of Boca Raton, Fla.
A memorial service will be conducted at 9 p.m. today, Monday, May 6, 2002 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Arrangements by Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1818 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego, Calif. 92107.
