Bernard Paul DeLaruelle, 67, of West Sixth Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, in Hospice House, South Bend, Ind. Ben was born on April 25, 1932, in Woodburn, Ind., to the late Peter and Clementine (Doens) DeLaruelle. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gabrielle Selis and Helen Deitchley; and by three brothers, Robert, August and Arthur DeLaruelle.
On Dec. 20, 1958, in Mishawaka, Ben married the former Lequita Fay "Lea" Starnes, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Brad DeLaruelle of Harrison Township, Mich., and his wife Julie and their children, Faylynn, Kenneth and Zachary; a daughter, Suzanne West of Mishawaka, and her husband Jon and their children, Laurelle and Dexter; and by three sisters, Mary Richard and Martha Nisley, both of Mishawaka, and Germaine Rose of Gary, Ind.
Ben retired from the Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation in Mishawaka. He had been a city umpire, and was an officer of the Wheelabrator Athletic Association and the Wheelabrator Federal Credit Union. He was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, South Bend.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, in the Grace United Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the Grace United Methodist Church.
