Sister M. Valentina Deka CSC, 87, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in her residence. She was born Aug. 17, 1903 in South Bend as Mary Deka. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Feb. 2, 1921; was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1921; and professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1923. She was assigned to elementary teaching including St. Hedwig School in South Bend from 1922 to 1937. She is survived by three sisters and two brothers, all of South Bend.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial following in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the convent where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
