Irene E. De Cocker, 89, of North Wenger Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 5:35 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in the Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mishawaka.
Irene was born on May 19, 1914, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of the late Emil and Mary (Van Hove) Coppens.
On May 7, 1936, in Mishawaka, as the former Irene Coppens, she married Adolph De Cocker, who also preceded her in death in 1973.
She is survived by her son, Donald (Janet) De Cocker of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Dennis De Cocker, Teresa Contraras, Michael De Cocker, Kevin De Cocker, Andrew De Cocker, Veronica Huchison, Aaron De Cocker, Timothy De Cocker and Stephanie De Cocker; and by 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Irene worked in the clerical departments of Associates and the x-ray department of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was a member of St Bavo Catholic Church, Altar Society and Theresians. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Irene will be missed by all who knew her, but she will never be forgotten.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 9, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in St Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
