Mildred M. "Millie" DeCook, 90, of South Bend, IN, passed away following a brief illness at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2005, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. She was born to the late Henry and Emma (DeWitt) DeVleeschower in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Angela Dorsch and Lucy Porogi; and one brother, Julius "Sis" DeVleeschower. Mrs. DeCook retired in 1975 from Grummell Community Coal Company in South Bend after 40 years of employment.

On November 25, 1939, as Mildred M. "Millie" DeVleeschower, she married Cyriel DeCook at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He died on November 19, 1976. She is survived by one sister, June M. Goethals of Mishawaka, IN; one niece, Joyce Ploughe of South Bend, IN; two nephews, Norman (wife Gail) Goethals of Muncie, IN, and Kenneth (wife Emily) Goethals of Bremen, IN; three grandnieces, Lisa Ploughe of South Bend, IN, Courtney Goethals of Chicago, IL, and Haley Goethals of Mishawaka, IN.

Mrs. DeCook was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, where she belonged to the Altar Rosary Society at the church. Millie was a loving sister and aunt. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, October 2, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2005, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Camillo Tirabassi officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or to Corpus Christi Catholic School, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN 46628.
