SOUTH BEND - Albert E. DeCook Sr., 80, of South Bend,
passed away in his home on Thursday, January 10, 2008. Albert was
born on May 27, 1927, in South Bend, as the son of Rene and Julia
(Van De Walle) DeCook. He was preceded in death by his
parents; and two sons, Daniel Joseph at birth and Albert Jr. on
March 9, 1992.
On October 11, 1952, in Giessen Germany, he
married the former Charlotte "Lottie" Zellmer
who preceded him in death on March 12, 2006. Surviving Albert are
five sons, Thomas (Candy) of Mishawaka, Donald of Warsaw, Alan,
Charles and Roger, all of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Erica,
Danny, Tim, Shell, Joe, Shawn, Melissa, Amber, April, Sara and
Charlotte; 10 great-grandchildren, Destiny, Daniel, Courtney,
Tyler, Alex, Pandora, Cailynn, Erynn, Hadynn and Sabrina.
Albert worked as a Mechanic for
Freeman-Spicer for 24 years and 10 months. He retired from the
work force in 1986. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He served his country proudly from 1946 to 1953. He was a member
of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the National Free Flight
Society.
A Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 14 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
