SOUTH BEND - Sophia DeBeck, 83, passed away on Thursday,
May 29, 2008, at 11:31 p.m. in Granger. Sophia was born on June
23, 1924, in South Bend, and was raised by her mother, Gladys (Wozniewicz)
Rajewski. She was preceded in death by her mother; three
sisters, Lucille Althouse, Sabina Bartz and Mary Celichowski;
brother-in-law, Ted Celichowski; and by two nephews, Ted and
Richard Bartz.
On January 11, 1947, as Sophia Rajewski she
married Aloys DeBeck in South Bend. He survives, along with their
children, Louise (Richard) Hojnacki of Granger and James
(Melagna) DeBeck of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, David (Susan)
Hojnacki of Grand Rapids, MI, Lori (Bob) Huntzinger of
South Bend, Paul (Jennifer) Hojnacki of South Bend, Sarah (Nate) Cole
of Mishawaka and Evan DeBeck of Mishawaka; seven
great-grandchildren, Sophie, Lily, Grace, Isabel and Ava
Hojnacki, and Ally and Jacob Huntzinger. She is also survived by
many nieces and nephews. Sophia was a Polish cook (the best!!!)
and did catering for the BK Club in Mishawaka, and DeAmici's
Club. She was a member of D.A.V. former Chapter #6; once they
closed she became a member of Chapter #19 in Elkhart. She was
also a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. She was a loving,
caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will
be greatly missed by her family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday,
June 1 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South
Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 2 in St.
Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph
Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court,
South Bend, IN 46637
