SOUTH BEND - Mr. Ellie Hugh Dean, 76,
loving father, grandfather and brother, who resided on South
Scott Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an extended
illness at 4 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, in Hospice House of St.
Joseph County. In Holly Springs, Miss., he was born to the union
of J.E. and Nannie (Blandon) Dean on Jan. 6, 1922. Coming
from Holly Springs, he had lived in South Bend for 38 years.
On Dec. 1, 1945, he was honorably discharged
from the United States Army, receiving the ATO Medal, EAMETO
Medal and APTO Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II
Victory Medal.
He leaves to mourn his loss, four daughters,
Bessie J. (Eugene, Jr.) Page, Magdalene Dean and Brenda
Dean, all of South Bend, and Nani Cash of Syracuse, Ind.,
two sons, John L. Dean and Ellis F. Dean, both of South Bend,
nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one brother,
Fred Lay of Louisville, Ky., along with other relatives and
friends. A daughter, Mary Bradford, preceded him in death.
Mr. Dean retired from Reith Riley Construction Company 15 years
ago.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Monday in Alford's Mortuary where friends may call from 7 to 9
p.m. today
