MISHAWAKA - Michael Anthony Deal, 62, of Mishawaka, passed
away at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Memorial Hospital
in South Bend of natural causes. Mike was born April 18, 1946, in
Mishawaka, Indiana to Lawrence and Kathleen Deal. On April 9,
1977, he was united in marriage to the former Ms. Evelyn Beam.
Evelyn survives, along with five children; Richard (Heather) O'Connell
of Mishawaka, Mistine (Sam) Green of Mishawaka, Darcia
(Clemente) Salazar of Mishawaka, Michelle (Jimmy) Judd
of South Bend, and Danialle Deal (fiancé Robert Flannery)
of Mishawaka. Mike is also survived by 10 grandchildren; his
mother, Kathleen Deal of Mishawaka; and his siblings, Terry
(Claire) Deal of Elkhart, Christopher (Toni) Deal of Buchanan,
Michigan, Kevin (Annette) Deal of Mishawaka, Joyce (Tony) Sirko
of South Bend, Diane Verstraete of Mishawaka, Colleen
(Brent) Seltzer of Rudyard, Michigan, and Michele Deal of
South Bend. Mike was preceded in death by his father; and his
siblings, David Deal, Timothy Deal, and Janet Mark.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Indiana. Rev. Mike Cramer of the New Life Baptist Church will officiate the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his Country from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1966. He was employed for 36 years with Midland Engineering as a roofer until his retirement in 2006. While employed, Mike was a member of the Roofers Union Local # 23, where he served as President of the Union in 1993. Through his employment, Mike volunteered for "Christmas in April" in the community for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling in leagues in South Bend. He was also known as an excellent gardener, with a "green thumb" to grow many varieties of vegetables and plants. In his memory, donations may be given to the United Cancer Services.
