SOUTH BEND - Robert R. Davis Sr., 76, of 806 S. 26th St., died at 11:35 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. Mr. Davis retired in 1983 from American Tool & Die Co. as a machinist after 25 years of service. He was born March 5, 1919, in Murphysboro, Ill., and lived in South Bend most of his life.

On Feb. 8, 1947, in South Bend, he married Ruth H. Rothermel. She survives with five daughters, Nancy Wilson of Riverside, Calif., Dorothy M. Davis of Garrett Park, Md., Sandra Monahon, Jennifer Davis and Susan Davis, all of South Bend; four sons, Robert R. Jr., Richard, James, all of South Bend, and Timothy of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Dennis of Mishawaka; a brother, William II of Fort Worth, Texas; and a half brother, Fred of Du Quoin, Ill. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veteran White Eagle Chapter 39, and was an Army veteran of World War II and portrayed Santa Claus for over 30 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
