GRANGER - Maxine Elizabeth "Mickey" Davis, 88,
of Granger, passed away in her home at 12:25 p.m. Saturday,
October 18, 2008, surrounded by family. Mickey was born on July
4, 1920, to the late Clarence and Esther (Schmitt) Ruffner.
On March 30, 1946, she married Elmer "Bud" Neil Davis.
Mickey was a member of Albright United Methodist Church,
Mishawaka. She was a member of the Beiger Heritage Foundation and
the Mishawaka Antique Club. She had two years of nurse's training
at Memorial Hospital in South Bend and worked for a local
pediatrician. Mickey also worked at Wyman's, Hudson's and Van De
Walle Monuments. Maxine's ancestors were one of the first 16
settlers to settle in Mishawaka in the 1800s. She received a
certificate from the Millennium Committee by the honorable Mayor
Beutter in recognition of the Smith and Schmitt families who
resided in the Mishawaka area from 1900-2000. Mickey is survived
by her loving husband; four children, Janice (Bill) Shaw
of South Bend, Jill Comfort of South Bend, Jackie Vogler
of Mishawaka and Jody (Lucy) Davis of Granger; 10 grandchildren,
Kimberly McCall, David (Melissa) Falkenau, Jennifer
(Tommy) Laymon, Rebecca Dahlin, Angela Comfort,
Alicia Comfort, Michael Vogler, Ann (David) Emmitt,
Benjamin Davis and Nicole Davis. She also has eight
great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and is also
survived by a brother, Jack (Dorene) Ruffner of Mishawaka. She
was preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister, Virginia Imbro.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, in the funeral home. Rev. Warren Kirkwood will officiate. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Albright United Methodist Church, 504 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
