Leonard H. Davis, Sr.

Mr. Leonard Howard Davis, Sr., 53, who resided at 206 East Milton Street, South Bend, Ind., passed from this life after a brief illness at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, at his residence.

On August 29, 1944, he was born to the union of Margaret G. Sykes and Willie Davis in Smithfield, Va., both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a devoted mother-in-law, Thelma Mae Mary Virginia Larkin Johnson.

In 1969 he united in marriage to Mary Britt in Passaic, N.J.

In 1981 he retired from Universal Medical Center of Newark, N.J. Coming from Passaic, N.J., he moved to South Bend in 1995.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mary Davis of Passaic, N.J.; three daughters, Sylvia Davis of South Bend, Rebecca Davis and Deborah Davis, both of Patterson, N.J.; two sons, Alonzo Davis of Union City, N.J., and Leonard Davis, Jr., of South Bend; twelve grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret (William) Michaels, Grizzell Long, Jane Clayborn and Carolyn (Lawrence) Pitt; three brothers, James McCoy Long, Linwood Lee Long and Alvin Theodore Long, all of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, all of South Bend, and one brother-in-law of Hackensack, N.J., along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and two devoted cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Alford's Mortuary. Friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel.
