Betty Ann Daughtrey, 79, of Vance Vista Court, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 5:23 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, in Hospice of St. Joseph County. Betty Ann was born on Jan. 5, 1921, in South Bend, and had resided in South Bend since 1997, coming from North Liberty, Ind.

As Betty Ann James she married James W. Daughtrey on April 11, 1940, in Sturgis, Ky. He preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by a daughter, Janis A. (Tom) Firtl of South Bend; a son, Richard J. (Sue) Daughtrey of Nokomis, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kelly (Ed) Grunawalt of Granger, Ind., Todd (Kim) Carroll of North Liberty, Candice A. Wassmer and Camila L. Eggers, both of South Bend, and Kitsy Ness of Mansfield, Ohio; and by eight great-grandchildren, Renea, Stephanie, Jamie, Gary, Ashley, Taylor, Kira and James; and by one great-great-grandchild, Joshua.

Betty Ann will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed by her family who loved her so very much. Mrs. Daughtrey retired in 1986 from the Wells Aluminum Corporation in North Liberty. The family of Betty Ann is grateful to Hospice House and the entire staff who cared for her so lovingly.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, in the Hanley and Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road and Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, in the funeral home, with Rev. Sam Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. The family request all memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437. The HANLEY and Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend heartfelt sympathy to the Daughtrey family.
